Regarded as a major publisher and voice for Blockchain among the Blockchain community, Canadian entrepreneur Richard Kastelein works primarily as a publisher, event designer and speaker and has joined DECENT as an external advisor.
He came into the Blockchain ecosystem by starting the first ever online magazine dealing with Blockchain technology outside of Bitcoin oriented themes, Blockchain News. Currently, his day to day work is running the popular publication as Editor-in-chief. He is regarded as one of the top journalists by the Blockchain and fintech – as is evident by his entry in the Top 150 Fintech journalists online and in the top 50 of the Blockchain Power 100 List.
He’s also a director of a Dutch foundation called The Hackitarians and has run innovation events in London, San Francisco, Berlin, Amsterdam and other cities around the world on topics such Blockchain, Health, Energy, Internet of Things, AI etc. He’s currently working on HacktheChain.com in London for next year – and wants to build Europe’s largest Blockchain Hackathon of 2017. Kastelein also sits on the steering committee of the Blockchain Ecosystem Network – a global organisation dedicated to bringing Blockchain to the mainstream.
In 2013, the European Commission appointed him as an expert for overseeing financing for emerging startups as a part of the European Commission’s 90 billion euro Horizon 2020 project, created in Brussels to promote innovation as a driving force of job creation and business ventures across Europe. He has also worked as an external expert for Innovate UK since 2012, judging startups for the UK government.
Most recently Kastelein spent five years in the TV Industry where he helped major broadcasting companies such as the BBC, ABC, Channel 4, CBC, NPO, RTL (DE and NL), Eurosport, NBCU, C4, ITV, Liberty Global, Seven Australia, Foxtel Australia and others with innovation strategy. He left TV business for Blockchain in 2014.
As a prominent keynote presenter, he has spoken on Blockchain at events in Gdansk, Amsterdam, Minsk, Dubai, Antwerp, Eindhoven etc, where he helped spread the cause for Blockchain technology and crypto-currency and, consequently, has built a notable network in the scene.
His invaluable experience in publishing and broadcasting will help DECENT lay the groundwork for perfecting its services and apps even faster, with better precision. Richard will participate on advising DECENT team on how to properly present Blockchain in the mainstream market.
On his reasons for joining up with the DECENT team, he stated, that he “was immediately attracted to the idea. Over the past five years,” he elaborates, “I have been working in the innovation side of TV and immediately ‘got’ the concept of how DRM and Blockchain could potentially work hand in hand to create a future.”
We anticipate working with him and welcome his passion for the business.
